Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev (b. 1957) is an Italian-American curator, writer, and art historian known for her visionary exhibitions and deep engagement with contemporary art, philosophy, and science. With a career spanning decades, she is especially celebrated for directing dOCUMENTA (13) in 2012 which opened in Kassel, Germany, holding workshops, seminars and exhibitions in Egypt, Afghanistan, and Canada.
She has held leadership roles at major art institutions including Castello di Rivoli, GAM Torino, and P.S. 1 (MoMA), and curated exhibtions at the Istnabul Biennial and Sydney Binnale. Her work often bridges disciplines and geographies, emphasizing politics, poetics, and the nonhuman.
