In a society that requires and cherishes the mobility of people, jobs and dwellings, art remains a very static practice. The goal is to challenge this notion through the presentation of meaningful examples and some of recent art and mobility projects by MOTOElastico.

Find out the answers in this panel discussion that features architects Simone Carena and Marco Bruno, moderated Qatar Auto Museum Director Dr. Alkindi Al Jawabra on the topic of art and mobility. Marco and Simone were artists in residence at the Fire Station in 2023-24.

Marco Bruno and Simone Carena are two architects born and educated in Italy, specialized in California, rooted in South Korea since 2001 and now living and practicing at VCUarts Qatar and were previous artist in residence at Fire Station in 2023-24.

Dr. Alkindi Al Jawabra is the director of the Qatar Auto Museum. He is an experienced architect with 17 years of experience in design, projects management, and museography development. Al Jawabra was one of the core team that worked on the development and delivery of the National Museum of Qatar. He holds a PhD in Critical Heritage Studies and MA in Museum and Gallery Practice from the University College London. Alkindi has published articles under Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), and talked at international conferences in Paris, Kyoto, London, and Doha. 

This panel discussion is part of the public programme series in conjunction with “A House Overlooking the World: Artist in Residence 8” exhibition at the Fire Station: Artists in Residence.
