Ilona Lénárd’s work is characterized by her gestures that translate into abstract personal universes. Through this intuitive procedure, she takes the viewers by surprise, orchestrating an immersive form of serendipity. Lénárd presents her recent gestural paintings and Jacquard woven wall tapestries. The speed of the operation is essential to Lenard’s practice, where she avoids deliberate thinking in search for the element of surprise.

Ilona Lénárd is a Hungarian-Dutch visual artist. She studied autonomous spatial design at Willem de Kooning Academy for Visual Arts in Rotterdam. Trained as an actress in Budapest, Hungary in her early twenties, she learned from acting the importance of gestures and empathic intuition. She currently lives and works in Qatar, and served as a co-mentor along with architect Kas Oosterhuis, for the 2018-19 residents at the Fire Station.
