Jagdish Moktan’s practice explores the intersections of personal history, collective memory, and the intangible dimensions of migration. Through his work, he reflects on layered narratives, engaging with the residues of the past that continue to shape the present. Working across multiple mediums, Jagdish approaches migration not simply as a physical journey, but as an emotional and psychological state, one marked by memory, distance, and an in-between sense of being. He often draws on oral histories, archives, and lived experiences to uncover what remains hidden or unspoken, exploring the quiet traces of absence, longing, and persistence that define migration.

His process is grounded in collecting and reinterpreting fragments of stories, archives, and oral histories that carry the weight of movement and loss. Through this, he reconstructs moments of continuity and rupture, weaving together personal and collective experiences. Ultimately, Jagdish’s work becomes a way of thinking through questions of identity, home, and belonging; reflecting on how migration reshapes not only bodies and places, but also the unseen landscapes of memory and time.
